Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
The Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department was established around 1920. At the time, it was the only fire department in Northeastern Trumbull County. The closest stations (then) were to be found in Brookfield and Cortland.
In the beginning, the department provided protection for six townships, Gustavus, Greene, Wayne, Johnston, and Vernon-Burghill.
The truck was kept at the A.G. Birrell Company, located at the township square. The first building acquired was just south of the town square, near the river (just east across the street from the physical therapy office).
Our current building at 8450 Ridge Road, was erected in 1971.
An addition to the structure in 1980 provided space for a radio room, truck room and lounge area.
The Kinsman Fire Department differs from most others, in that it (the Fire Association) owns the building which houses the equipment.
